We have a large number of walk-in admissions at Southeastern, too.   We give the student two copies of their transfer transcripts when they are admitted.....one for the academic advisor and one for the financial aid office.    We also see a lot of students going online to print off their unofficial transcripts via student portals at the other schools.

Once the student's official transfer transcripts are recorded on the SE transcript, there's no need for us to make copies of the originals since students are able to see all their transfer work on the SE transcript.    We type on everything....the good, the bad, and the ugly.

To clarify something that has come up during this exchange do you give the student a copy when they are first admitted to take with them to see an advisor or faculty or are they expected to bring in two official transcripts.  I know that OCCC may be unique in that many of our students are admitted as walk ins.  How would you handle advisors or faculty needing to see the transcript for prerequisites, etc., if you don't provide a copy to the student?

Barbara,

In general, OSU does not provide students with copies of educational records we maintain (including transcripts from other institutions or other admission documents).  In rare occasions we have granted an exception to a student with extenuating circumstances and provided him/her copies of select records.  In addition, if a student invokes his or her FERPA rights to review education records, we allow the student to inspect his/her documents according to the guidelines contained in our institutional FERPA policy.
