[Oacrao-l] High School Transcripts and HIPAA

At Oklahoma State Center for Health Sciences, our admissions department collects the required health and immunization records, but forwards it on to our medical records department at our Clinic.  I believe that HIPPA dictates that none of this information can be housed in the academic file.  We have blue envelopes that designate that medical information is inside.

Hi Alan,
We get this with a lot of our international students.  I simply forward this information directly to our health center for their records, rather than scanning this documentation within in our admission records.

Subject: [Oacrao-l] High School Transcripts and HIPAA

More and more high schools are including a student's vaccination record with their high school transcripts.  I am concerned that if I scan the document with that information I am then archiving "medical" records and, therefore, subject to HIPAA.   Does anyone else have this concern?
