Paul,
I agree with you. We wouldn't let them get by without it.

Subject: [Oacrao-l] Deficiencies part 82

Greetings all, I need some advice on deficiencies, please
Say we have a student who scored a 16 on the Math portion of the ACT, and scored low on the CPT, and is deficient to the point Arithmetic through Intermediate Algebra are required for remediation.
Student is pursuing a major that does not require College Algebra.
There's a rumor here that if the student takes the 0-level arithmetic course and qualifies prerequisite-wise for our MATH 1113 - Math for General Education course, then the deficiencies should be cleared, and the 24 hour limit erased. And the further extension: that if the student completes the MATH 1113 - Math for General Education course, without having the 0-level Elementary or Intermediate Algebra courses, then the Math deficiencies are cleared. This is all based on the student being in a major that does not require College Algebra.
How would you all look at this at your institution? I maintain the deficiency hasn't been met, since the algebra requirement hasn't been met.
Thanks for your help.
Paul
