Hello, I hope this e-mail finds you well as you prepare for Thanksgiving. On November 1, 2012 the Board of Trustees of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) granted candidate for accreditation status for two Oklahoma tribal colleges. Candidate status for these colleges is for a period of four years at which time initial accreditation will be decided:

· College of the Muscogee Nation (CMN) [Okmulgee]

· Comanche Nation College (CNC) [Lawton]

As background, candidacy is a pre-accreditation status and affiliates the institution with the HLC, but does not give it membership in the HLC. Candidacy provides time and support to a new and changing college or university as it develops into an accreditable organization. For most institutions, candidacy enables students to qualify for federal financial aid programs, and it often aids in the transferability of the candidate institution's credits to another college or university.

Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Institutional Accreditation (3.1) policy allows for credits earned at CMN and CNC to transfer at face value into like programs at institutions in the State System and on a voluntary basis by private-independent institutions.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
José
