[Oacrao-l] classroom scheduling

I have reviewed a number of classroom scheduling companies. Most are for events they are very robust in event planning but weak in scheduling. They also can be very expensive.

To just schedule classrooms the best I have seen to date is Celcat. It is a British firm trying to break into the US so their price is very low. Instead of a room scheduler, the brits call it a "Timetabler".

The item that impressed me the most is if you need to move a class to a different time, you just click the class in its current time slop and drag it into a new time slot. As you enter into the new time slot, it immediately shows you the students' names (or instructor) who have a time conflict with another course at the new time.

Good luck.

Rogers

Good morning!

I'm pretty sure this has already been asked before, so I apologize for a possible repeated question.

Has your institution purchased software as a tool to help arrange/schedule classrooms and events? UCO has put together a task force and considering many factors in terms of what we think is required and necessary to have it suit our needs. We're still VERY early in our discussion phase (haven't even touched on the whole "who's going to authorize/monitor it" question!), but we've identified some possible vendors:

25Live
EMS Campus
Astra Schedule
360Workplace
FAMIS
AsureSpace

Do any of you use one of the vendors listed above (or even if it's not?) Would you mind sharing your opinion of them, pros & cons, what you wish you knew then what you know now...that kind of thing?

Thanks, and happy Monday to all!

Adam, we have been using EMS for a couple of years now for event planning. We run a feed from Banner into EMS to then populate the classes and their location information. It's been working fairly well for us. If a department or club wants to schedule an event they go online and can see what's available and schedule it. The system can be set for the time out required that your calendar/facility area wants to use for scheduling.

David
