[Oacrao-l] ACE Credits--StraighterLine (Daniel Archer)

Hi Kwanna and OACRAO Colleagues,

I wanted to take a quick moment to clarify the American Council on Education (ACE) issue in relation to State Regents' policy.  

The policy section that addresses ACE credit, which is detailed within the State Regents’ Credit for Prior Learning policy, has not changed in recent years. 

As background, an ACE evaluation is one acceptable means by which an institution can use to substantiate prior learning, which may or may not result in collegiate credit.  In the end, the institutional faculty who possess content expertise in the area in which the prior learning occurred should make the ultimate decision on whether the learning outcomes detailed in the ACE evaluation merit specific collegiate credit.

At Southeastern, we do the same as UCO.   The Straighterline credit must be ACE evaluated.

UCO will accept StraighterLine credits from an ACE transcript, and only for those credits that have an ACE evaluation.

And just like military credits, many departments are hesitant to directly articulate the courses.  So, most come in as elective credit.

Season's greetings to everyone. How are your respective institutions handling ACE credits, more specifically, Straighterline credits? There was some discussion a couple of years ago, but my VPAA informed me that Regents' policy has changed according to ACE credits.
