Happy Thursday to colleagues on the OACRAO listserv!
Has anyone not caught a fraudulent student before sending them to the National Student Clearinghouse in the core enrollment data submission?
Redlands is at the end of our new CRM implementation, and that CRM has some fraudulent checks as part of the process. As a result, I have a few students admitted under the old CRM that were identified as potentially fraudulent by the new CRM. I emailed the NSC support email address, and I received the following response:
Thank you for reaching out. We do ask that you notify us of fraudulent enrollments so we can ensure the correct steps have been taken, and remove them from our system, so it's not something you're able to do on your own. Before we can process your request, we need a few more things. Please send us a letter on school letterhead with the following:
* Re-state the student's name and information
* Confirm the records are fraudulent and that you would like us to remove them from our system
* Confirm the school has fulfilled its obligation to report suspected fraud to the OIG
* A signature
Once we have this, we can move forward. You can send the letter to me at this email address. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Blair Fogarty, Manager, Legal Operations
National Student Clearinghouse
The step of notifying the OIG for the FDoE is new to me. I am wondering if other institutions report fraudulent students to the OIG, or does your institution catch everyone before an enrollment file is sent? We send an early registration file to the NSC as the semester starts, and this is the file that those fraudulent students were in. Then, when I reach my first-of-term file core enrollment file submission, I find them in an error report that leads me to investigate what happened to the student. It is at this point, I am finding that a student's enrollment was removed from our Colleague SIS.
Thanks, in advance for any feedback you may have.
Best regards,
Troy
