OFFICE OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID
FINANCIAL AID COUNSELOR
Job Summary:
* Provide advice and assistance to students and parents regarding applying for financial assistance, including federal aid and institutional scholarships.
* Provide guidance and information to students regarding maintaining and/or regaining eligibility for assistance.
* Review aid applications to verify accuracy and determine need for additional information.
* Use professional judgment in determining whether student has unusual circumstances that would affect financial aid eligibility.
* Support OSU's recruitment and retention mission through the presentation of financial aid information, both on-campus and throughout the area.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree, preferably in the social sciences. Prefer candidate with Master's degree in Counseling, Student Development or Higher Education and the following experiences and/or skills:
* Experience working with students in a collegiate setting.
* Strong interpersonal skills and excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
* Ability to identify issues, investigate possible reasons/solutions, evaluate possible outcomes, and develop the most efficient and effective plan of action for each individual situation.
* Sensitivity to the emotional nature of discussions related to finances, and the ability to balance requirements of federal, state, and institutional programs with concepts of customer service.
* Ability to clearly communicate in a presentation setting to groups and individuals.
* Ability to incorporate the need for confidentiality of information into every aspect of the job.
* Experience working with the financial aid process and a background in personal finance is helpful, but not required.
* Ability to work evenings and weekends for outreach and recruitment events and prior to the start of the fall semester.
Salary:
* Commensurate with education and experience.
* Range $2440-3745 per month.
