Job Description

 

Position Title:                         Student Loan Coordinator

 

Department:                           Student Administrative
Services/Financial Aid

 

Supervises:                             Student Administrative Services
Generalist

 

Position Status:                      Exempt 

Probationary Period:              180 days

 

 

Prerequisites Required for Position:

 

1.	Minimum Education Requirement:  Bachelor's degree strongly preferred

 

2.	Minimum Work Experience:  3-5 years experience in financial
aid/student loan processing

                               

Job Function: Administer the federal and private loan processing from loan
certification through the authorization for disbursements via SIS computer
system.  Responsible for knowledge of all applicable federal regulations and
the ability to analyze and interpret these regulations to ensure that the
university is in compliance with all federal regulations regarding loan
processing. Responsible for maintaining the timely processing of loan
applications as well as for improving current processes and developing new
ones to improve the timely delivery of loan funds to students/parents.
Responsible for training other staff in the area of loan processing.
Responsible for resolving issues with lenders, guarantee agencies and other
third party servicers to ensure that students/parents receive their loan
funds on a timely basis.

 

Description of Essential Job Functions:

1.	Reviews, prepares and certifies loan applications for electronic
transmission to lenders , guarantee agencies and third party servicers
involved in the loan process. 
2.	Transmits and receives loan information to and from outside
agencies.
3.	Analyzes information from the outgoing and incoming transmission
reports to ensure that all data was transmitted, received and processed as
needed.
4.	Is the primary contact with outside agencies when needed to resolve
problems that may occur from the initial transmission of loan data through
the disbursement of loan funds to students/parents.
5.	Responsible for training and supervision of the student
administrative services generalist(s) in the area of loan processing.
6.	Responsible for monthly reconciliation of loan disbursements with
the business office.
7.	Posts and oversees the posting of incoming loan funds to the
financial aid SIS module.  
8.	Ensures that all funds are posted accurately and within the
deadlines set by federal regulations
9.	Calculates and forwards loan refund checks to lenders on an as
needed basis.
10.	Counsels students and parents on the various loan options offered by
the federal government as well as private loans for professional students.
11.	Attends open house, off-campus, and roundtable sessions to inform
prospective students/parents as well as continuing student about financial
aid  with an emphasis on student/parent loan availability.
12.	Performs other duties as assigned by director.

Work Conditions:

Work is primarily indoors, but will be outdoors when traveling from one
building to another

Standard hours are 8:00 - 5:00, but overtime will be required as needed to
stay in compliance with federal regulations

Will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines

 

Physical Requirements:

1.	Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies up to 40 lbs.
2.	Must be able to bend, stoop and reach
3.	Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and
other business machines
4.	Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer
display screens
5.	Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
6.	Must use computer keyboard up to 6 hours per day
