UCO collects race/ethnicity data via checkboxes (student can check all that apply) and we also collect tribal information/tribal ancestry. It is worth noting that our data warehouse then coalesces all of the race/ethnicity information into the various “buckets” that IPEDS requires for its reporting.

Good morning, Diane.  RSU also asks for tribal identification.  Further, if a student selects 2 or more races, we ask which races.  In this way we know that 85% of our students who select 2 or more races are Native American plus one other race, and nearly 30% of our students are Native American.  This information helps us know what other questions we should be asking ourselves and informs opportunities for our university to pursue.

Thanks Diane.  We have some groups here on campus who are wanting to get more specific on the gender/sex question (ie LGBTQ info, and on the race codes for Black/African American they are wanting to specifically ask more detail where they are from.

UDS asks for more detailed information on race, although I am sure this is not what you mean, as UDS feeds IPEDS.  But we report specifically what races make up a person with two races or more.  Also, we report tribal and tribal line information.
