if you/your students like to solve puzzles, this is for you!
1. What: Puzzles based on periodic table will be sent to all
competitors and prizes awarded. A competition sponsored/run by students
in Cuba and the U.S.
2. When: March, 2010. The link above provides an on-line sign up
form.
3. Who: teams from around the world! There are five divisions;
middle school, high school, 2 college/university levels and open (open
division is anyone from an accountant sitting on the beach in Brazil to
a family inside the Artic circle).
4. Where: the whole competition will be conducted via e-mail.
You pick your location and we forward a dozen puzzles. Those that do
the best - win!
5. How? The web link above provides details on the unique puzzle
(rules) and logistics of the competition. (note: this link will be
updated very soon - it has some errors).
FAQ:
Cost: free
Do I have to be a chemist? No! but you'll learn some chemistry!
Who is this aimed at? Mostly students but anyone can enter.
Why do it? Students will compete against teams around the world -
students love competition!
Prizes? Yes - they are awarded. But even if your group finished
dead-last - they'll learn quite a bit of chemistry.
Why do this with a class? Lots of reasons - extra credit, substitute for
a lab or a lecture, great team activity.
Where can we do this? You pick the spot - just need access to the
internet.
Updated announcement will be sent in 2-3 weeks.
