We are deeply saddened by the tragic events of Monday's tornado in Moore, as well as Sunday's tornado in Shawnee. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected. We can't begin to fathom the level of devastation in the area. The loss of loved ones carries the heaviest of tolls. We know that so many families are displaced in this heart breaking situation.

But we also know that Oklahomans are strong and generous, willing to help in tremendous ways. Nonprofit organizations are already part of the first wave of response, and I know that nonprofits will continue to help those in the days, weeks and months ahead. We support the first responders on the scene, and we ask that everyone in Oklahoma answer those calls to meet the needs of all of those affected by the storms.

We are ever thankful to the generosity of the individuals, foundations and businesses supporting nonprofits, volunteering their time, and joining together to lend a strong hand to the families who have lost so much. We will continue to stay apprised of the situation and communicate with Oklahoma nonprofits about the emerging needs in Moore, Shawnee and other areas hit by the storms.

Because of this, and because so many of our nonprofits, community partners, philanthropists and Oklahoma citizens want to show their support, we have created a website - OklahomaGives.org <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=0015-PL2CgVWwUTBkkaCoO-zL_dlH8HMwQrDbrYnSsLe959ry1yYtGK62cWu4YPGHX7QiJ6jqWRn-C4rXoGKPgyH9lLLg8OX6q-yUMzsXvj-7pmqgfSOda-lQ==> - to help nonprofits and supporters share their stories of support, communicate needs and show that Oklahoma is truly one of the greatest and most generous states in the country.

In the coming days and weeks, we will post useful information as we receive it about the relief efforts in Moore and Shawnee, along with helpful guidance for nonprofits and supporters to come together and be "OK Strong!"

We also want nonprofits to contact us about their needs so that they can best provide relief in the area. If your nonprofit organization* is providing any of the following:

  * Direct care or relief to residents in the area
  * Food, shelter or immediate services to those affected
  * A collection or drop-off point for necessary supplies
  *   Volunteer coordination
  * Long-term assistance for families or businesses affected
  * Other services to help those in need

Please contact Lindsey Fry at The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits<mailto:lfry at oklahomacenterfornonprofits.org>, and she will place your requests for assistance on the Oklahoma Gives site, as well as social media sites such as Twitter<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=0015-PL2CgVWwXRYzJcJHc_dKwhyzuMMJezVKR7xPO01ORBSDGbgvnLz0FD-SCkrDEkiIfoWvK6fxefnR2L8XMX4JQ1zrJ4dVi7GiR2JsqaQP6yfJP-tu46Ph23zb1_3uKnLStC4GyIqus=> and Facebook<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=0015-PL2CgVWwVsE1sGyO_HWn-qnPSlol-IqAjTnr_Kn64cGZ1hgQ74kCNseqnCVBjH_QWCFt71UYVdc7v5bl48qb_lwdck7WLy9rSLLGkxL6TBaSM2kK-do7anyCoZtQZGT7-UI8X_Bwg=>.

*Organizations must have a 501c3 designation and registered with the Oklahoma Secretary of State.

We hope that this is just one way we can continue supporting the nonprofits that make our state thrive. Nonprofits are the heart and life blood of Oklahoma, and we know that - because of your work - will we emerge from these tragedies. - Marnie Taylor
