Oklahoma Student Researcher Wins National Science Poster Competition
The 23rd National Science Foundation Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) Conference was held Nov. 3-7 and showcased the research contributions of EPSCoR jurisdictions while highlighting opportunities to become a vehicle for job creation, entrepreneurship, external engagement and innovation.
Ashokkumar Sharma, a doctoral student in the department of biosystems and agricultural engineering at Oklahoma State University, recently won first place in a national science poster competition in Nashville, Tenn. A research-focused student poster competition held during the event provided approximately 60 students with an opportunity to showcase their current or completed research and compete for awards. Sharma's poster, titled "Prediction of biomass-generated syngas using extents of major reactions in a continuous stirred-tank reactor," received first prize in the energy category. He was awarded an iPad Mini for his work. Sharma's winning bioenergy research was funded by the Oklahoma NSF EPSCoR program and the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station. His adviser was Ajay Kumar, assistant professor in the department of biosystems and agricultural engineering at OSU.
