Additional Information about Tech Trek:
* Tech Trek has been in existence in California since 1998, serving more than 9,000 girls. In 2012, the National AAUW in cooperation with the California AAUW decided to expand Tech Trek nationwide. Members of the AAUW Weatherford branch, in partnership with SWOSU, were chosen as one of four pilot sights to host a Tech Trek camp outside of California. For 2014, there will be seven camps across the United States, including Tech Trek at SWOSU.
* Tech Trek builds on AAUW's research report, "Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math" (see www.aauw.org/learn/research/whysofew.cfm<http://www.aauw.org/learn/research/whysofew.cfm>), which demonstrated that camps like Tech Trek improve girls' interest and confidence in STEM areas. Girls benefit greatly from exposure to STEM role models, as well as to other girls like themselves who have an aptitude for math and science. Camp activities also allow them to experience and potentially succeed at a variety of STEM concepts and skills in a supportive environment.
* At Tech Trek at SWOSU, girls attend interactive lectures in the STEM fields, participate in hands-on workshops, learn professional etiquette, and take a field trip to the Stafford Air & Space Museum. Girls are able to investigate career options in STEM fields, as well as gain real world insight into the applications of STEM to everyday life. The camp culminates with an awards and recognition banquet, during which the girls' families share in the experiences and achievements of Tech Trek.
* The only cost of Tech Trek is a $50 reservation fee.

Do not be afraid to give your time to writing grant proposals. Time given to planning proposals is never time lost, but is rather time gained, so that our research, our programs, our collaborations and indeed our whole profession may become more profoundly significant.
