I. CCT REU:
Interdisciplinary Research Experience in Computational Sciences http://reu.cct.lsu.edu/

The Louisiana State U Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) hosts a ten week Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program where students work collaboratively on a wide variety of computational science projects.

Each student receives a stipend of $5,000, free housing in university dormitories, and up to $600 in travel expenses to and from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Nine students will be selected.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate, community college student, or high school senior attending college in the fall, interested in a major that is within the computational sciences umbrella (leaves out few majors as it includes all sciences, mathematics, engineering, finance, statistics, etc.) with at least a 2.75 GPA, considering a career in research and/or graduate school in your major, being a US citizen or permanent resident, and graduating at least one semester after completion of the REU.

Important Dates:
Sun March 1 2015: Application deadline.
Wed April 1 2015: Notification of decision.
Mon May 25 2015 through Fri Jul 31 2015: Program dates.

The research activities of the CCT are organized into five Focus
Areas:

* Core Computing Sciences
* Coast to Cosmos
* Material World
* Cultural Computing
* System Science and Engineering

These are broad, and sometimes overlapping areas where faculty from diverse departments (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Civil Engineering, Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computing Engineering, Music, Business, etc.) collaborate in multidisciplinary projects.

Our REU students learn how to use some of the nation's largest supercomputers, may participate in the setup and management of large-scale simulations, and may take on an important role in the analysis and visualization of the simulation results.

(2) LA-SiGMA REU
Interdisciplinary Research Experiences in Materials Science http://reu.lasigma.loni.org/

This Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) project is a nine or ten week program where students work collaboratively on a wide variety of materials science projects.

Each student receives a stipend of $4,500, free housing in university dormitories, and up to $400 in travel expenses.

Thirty students will be selected, five each at Louisiana State U, Louisiana Tech U, Southern U at Baton Rouge, Tulane U, U New Orleans, and Xavier U of Louisiana.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate, community college student, or high school senior attending college in the fall, interested in a major that is within the computational sciences umbrella (leaves out few majors as it includes all sciences, mathematics, and engineering) with at least a 2.75 GPA, considering a career in research and/or graduate school in your major, and being a US citizen or permanent resident.

Important Dates:

March 1, 2015: Application deadline.
April 1, 2015: Notification of decision.
End of May, 2015 through early August, 2015: Program dates vary by university.

(3) LA-SiGMA RET: Interdisciplinary Research Experiences for Teachers in Materials Science http://ret.lasigma.loni.org/

This Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) project is a six week program where teachers work collaboratively on a wide variety of materials science projects for an inside look into materials science research and computer-based modeling.

Teachers will meet world-class researchers, visit labs that are closed to the public, and work on meaningful research first hand.

AND they will get ideas and projects to take back to their classroom!

Twenty-one teachers will be selected to do research at Louisiana State U, Louisiana Tech U, or U New Orleans.

The total budget for each RET participant is $7,000, which includes up to $1,000 in travel, the RET stipend, materials and supplies, housing (if needed), meals, and materials and supplies for your classrooms.

The specifics of the breakdown of the total amount among these categories is left up to each host campus and may be determined in consultation with the teachers.

Qualifications:

Middle school, high school, or community college teacher currently teaching math, science, or technology, with a bachelor's degree in math, science, education, or engineering, interested in materials science and computational science, able to conduct on-site research during the entire 6 weeks of the program, and who is a US citizen or a permanent resident.
