[Okgrantsmanship] Question about fringe in proposal budgets

The HR Department figures an average percentage for fringe (one for
full-time and another for part-time) that we use in our grants at CASC. I
provide justification for the amount through a list of what is included and
the itemized costs.

OSU has federally approved negotiated rates for fringe benefits, which are
used in proposal budgets.

Colleagues,

I have been asked a question about proposal development among the public
colleges and universities. The question is related to budget development
around salaries and wages.



There are a couple of ways to develop proposal budgets that include
existing personnel: 1) you list the salary and actual fringe rate for each
salary or wage line, or 2) you use a standard fringe rate, such as 35% or
50% for each salary, regardless of what the actual fringe is calculated to
be. Will you please tell me which method you use?



OSRHE uses actual fringe rates.
