Subject: National American University - Status Update

Good morning,

I wanted to share a quick update regarding National American University and their removal from SARA participation. Please feel free to share this information with your state portal entities.

As of today, April 22, 2020 National American University (NAU) is no longer a SARA member. After a year on provisional status, the school's federal financial composite score has decreased from a 1.1 to 1.0 and they remain on heightened cash monitoring with the US Department of Education. Therefore, South Dakota has decided not to renew the institution's SARA participation for the coming year.

Under the provisions of SARA Manual Section 3.8, an institution that loses eligibility to participate in SARA may no longer enroll students under SARA provisions, meaning that NAU must meet the appropriate state authorization requirements in every state where any new students are admitted after the loss of SARA eligibility, effective April 22, 2020. For students who are currently enrolled under the provisions of SARA, NAU may continue to operate under SARA for 90 days or until each student enrolled under SARA in the current term has completed work for that term, withdrawn, or otherwise ceased enrollment (not to exceed six months). The longer of these two criteria will be utilized, starting from the date that NAU's SARA membership is no longer effective. Therefore, no students can be authorized through SARA starting July 21, 2020.
