The following message is going out today to SPEs, institutions, and other SARA contacts. If you did not get to attend the webinar on 9/1/20 (which I did not, because of prior commitments) then you may watch the recording, and you will have an opportunity again at the SPE conference. SREB will also provide an opportunity to discuss the proposed modifications in a manner similar to what we did this spring. I will work with Elisa to determine how and when we will meet to discuss the proposed changes.

NC-SARA Welcomes Feedback to Proposed Policy Modifications and Clarifications by September 11, 2020
NC-SARA will be proposing six modifications (one policy change and five policy clarifications) to the SARA Manual that will be considered by the NC-SARA Board during its October meeting. Participating SARA institutions and others are invited to submit feedback about these proposed modifications by September 11, 2020.

U.S. Dept. of Ed Issues Final Rules on Distance Education Innovation
On August 24th, after a comprehensive 2018-2019 Negotiated Rulemaking session and additional public comments on the proposed regulations this past spring, the Department of Education has released final rules on Distance Education and Innovation. Although these new regulations pertain to distance learning, they do not have a direct impact on NC-SARA or its requirements. These new federal distance education requirements take effect July 1, 2021, yet early implementation is permitted.
