Residents,

As face-to-face instruction has been discontinued for spring 2020, we will continue to offer housing in the residence halls through the end of the semester. Students may choose to live on campus or complete the semester from home. Services for students will be available for the rest of the semester.

If you plan to stay on campus, we will ask you to let us know as soon as possible at housing at usao.edu<mailto:housing at usao.edu>. In order to manage this evolving situation, we need to hear from you as quickly as possible.

Limiting the on-campus population decreases the health risks to students, family members, friends and the larger USAO community and helps to "flatten the curve" of transmission. We are strongly encouraging a reduced occupancy in on-campus housing for the rest of the spring semester to protect the health of our entire campus community - students, faculty and staff.

If you choose to leave:
* If you choose to leave housing, you will need to complete an express check-out from housing within the next 7 days. You can pick up the express checkout form and key envelop on a bulletin board in your building's lobby.
* Checkout process includes removing all belongings from your room and cleaning thoroughly.
* You will complete the express checkout form and return it along with your keys to the designated box in the lobby of your building.
* Card access will also be deactivated once you've checked out.
* Mailbox keys can be turned in with your room key if you are not returning to housing next semester.
* You will need to have mail forwarded via U.S. Postal Service.
* If you are not returning to housing, but unable to return to campus to retrieve your belongings within the next 7 days, housing will make accommodations and securely store your belongings until a time when there are fewer social distancing measures in place. We will not charge students for items remaining in the halls during this time.

If you choose to stay:
* We understand that some of you may not have another housing option and wish to stay on campus right now. We want you to know that you are welcome to stay here.
* We will work to keep your living environments clean and healthy and core services available to you as permitted by the emerging orders from the federal and state officials.
* Given the need for social distancing, you may have to relocate to different rooms or residence halls.
* Visitation policies may be revised, including the restriction of guests/visitors for the remainder of the semester.
* There will be zero tolerance for policy violations.
* Dining Services will be open on a modified schedule with only to-go options to ensure students who remain on campus have access to meals. Dietary restrictions will be accommodated as always.

All students will need to confirm a final decision by Monday, March 30. This timing provides students with several days of experience with remote instruction to determine if they prefer to remain in the residence halls or instead continue their studies at home.

Housing and Residence Life staff will be going door-to-door and entering residences after March 30 to ensure what students have checked out of housing.

This is an evolving situation, and we will update you with new developments or changes specific to housing as soon as we can. We will do our best to address any concerns or questions you may have as well. Please continue to check your student email and https://usao.edu/coronavirus for further communications and guidance as things unfold.

Sincerely,

Nancy
