[Counselors] Your school's concurrent policy

Would you please share your Concurrent handbook policy wording in regards to what counts on their transcript and GPA?

Section 1148. High School Seniors - Enrollment in College Courses, page 688 in the school law book, http://sde.ok.gov/sde/sites/ok.gov.sde/files/2015%20%20LAW%20BOOK%20FINAL%20%282%29.pdf says:
E.  When a student earns college credit through concurrent enrollment, school districts shall provide academic credit for any concurrently enrolled higher education courses that are correlated with the academic credit awarded by the institution of higher education.  Academic credit shall only be transcripted as elective credit if there is no correlation between the concurrent enrollment higher education course and a course provided by the school district. (70-628.13)

Bottom line is the State Department of Education/State Board of Education does not have a policy on how credits equate nor is it in the state law. The local school must compare the college syllabus with the high school syllabus or standards or course description (what is being taught in the course) and make the decision of what high school class the college class will be transcripted for.

The State Regents have a policy for the purpose of calculating workload.

A high school student may enroll in a combined number of high school and college courses per semester not to exceed a full-time college workload of 19 semester credit hours. For purposes of calculating workload, one-half high school unit shall be equivalent to three semester credit hours of college work.

Concurrent enrollment is a very good idea for a variety of reasons; however, I think each student should be warned about possible ramifications and encouraged to visit with the scholarship office at the school or schools they are looking at for future college attendance.
Classes taken concurrently may not effect scholarships but they likely will effect SAP, Satisfactory Academic Progress.  Students must be cautioned about poor grades or poor completion rates in these classes.  If they drop a couple or get a couple of "D's" in these classes in high school, the situation will follow them and they may find themselves in a probationary financial aid status immediately upon becoming a regular college student.
