At Western Heights, we are having a great problem with attendance and students completing assignments.
Students are scheduled for two zoom meetings, per class, each week (Mon/Wed and Tue/Thur); one zoom meeting (for advocacy) on Fridays at 12:30. Advocacy is a class, added by administrators, for students to reach out (the teacher is a liaison to give students assistance in their classes, talking to their teachers, lending an ear, and trying to motivate these students).
Our administration has instructed our teachers to give students a point for each zoom meeting they attend, and a point for completing 3 assignments, per class, each week. This would allow students to earn 5 points, per class, each week. If they get at least 3 points, they earn perfect attendance for the week.
AND.....students have until midnight on Sunday to turn in assignments for each week.
The issue is.... Many of our students are working a job, getting paid money, and parents/guardians would rather their student work for money. Administration is instructing our teachers to do more for our students.... Our teachers are at a loss, not knowing what more they can do.

  * What can we, as counselors, do to support our teachers and motivate these students to believe that having an education should be a top priority?
  * How can we use google classroom to do this?
  * Is there a better, technology program, to do this? (keep in mind that some of us are not computer savvy)
Thanks,
Laura
