Oakland University
Director of Financial Aid

Oakland University, founded in 1957, has long been an innovator in public
higher education. As a member of Michigan's university system, Oakland is
dedicated to preparing learners for the twenty-first century workplace.
Serving over 14,000 students, Oakland offers bachelor's, master's, and
doctoral degrees across six schools and colleges. In addition to strong
enrollment growth, the University's recent successes include a new sports
and recreation center, expanded academic programs, and new and innovative
partnerships with area corporations.

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management, the Director of
Financial Aid will oversee the Office of Financial Aid, manage the
University's $35 million financial aid program, and coordinate a variety of
external financial aid programs. The Director will manage a staff of 11 and
will be responsible for insuring that financial aid packaging is strategic
and supports the overall student enrollment and recruitment goals. The
University is also committed to a centralized student services unit, of
which financial aid will be a part, as well as to using technology to
improve delivery systems and the level of service to all constituents.

The successful candidate will possess a master's degree or an equivalent
combination of education and experience in financial aid in a higher
education setting. Strong supervisory skills, a thorough knowledge of
financial aid regulations, legislation, and processes, as well as experience
in the use of merit aid and in a direct loan program are required.
Additionally, knowledge of web-based delivery systems and the demonstrated
use of technology in the delivery of financial aid services are important
factors in the selection of the new Director.

Review of applications will begin on May 30, 2001, and will continue until
the position is filled. Nominations of individuals for this position may be
