ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. other duties may be assigned.
Understand, communicate, and maintain employee benefit programs and perform various payroll functions for the University.
TASKS AND DUTIES:
* Maintain, process and effectively communicate employee benefit programs and various payroll functions including various insurances, leave reports, retirement programs, investment programs, workers compensation, garnishments and other applicable benefit and payroll functions.
* Effectively operate various automated systems including the University's current payroll system and various insurance specific systems.
* Effectively operate and maintain various Excel spreadsheets and effectively balance with payroll system on a periodic basis.
* Understand various insurance programs including health insurance, medicare, disability insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, and life insurance.
* Effectively communicate with various insurance personnel, an array of University employees, and retirees including advocating for employees and retirees with insurance companies regarding insurance benefits.
* Maintain workers compensation reports and effectively communicate with workers compensation personnel and University employees.
* Maintain confidentiality pertaining to sensitive information.
* Prepare various summary reports for payroll functions.
* Perform other Employment Service office duties as necessary.

EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree; one year of bookkeeping and/or accounting experience; related high school or post-secondary courses and/or successfully completed studies from an approved business school may be substituted for experience.
Other skills and abilities are ability to type, computer literate, ability to operate a ten-key adding machine by touch, read and understand insurance related jargon and the ability to tactfully communicate with people.
