Hi folks,
According to the weather forecast, we're looking at a real scorcher
coming up today, so stay in a cool spot if you can find one, and don't
forget to put cool water out for any pets that may have to be outside in
this extreme heat, or give them a break and let them come inside til it
cools off. Try to limit outdoor activities to later in the day, or
preferably later in the week when there's supposed to be a cold front
moving in, bringing us down into the mere 90's! Check on any elderly
people who may live alone and be without air conditioning, also. I just
got word yesterday that my mom's little AC unit went out, so we're going
to have to get that replaced pronto. Luckily, we got al Alco sale paper
in the mail and they have a couple of units on sale, so that'll probably
be our project for this evening. She doesn't run her air conditioner
all that much, but she still needs one.
You'll want to watch out for "Bad Bugs" during this heat wave, also.
We've found about 3 stinging scorpions in our house lately that we did
not invite in. Evidently they are looking for somewhere to escape the
heat, too. Fortunately, they have all tended to be on our walls where
they show up well and I can get a shoe after them. And I saw a scary
story on the news last night about a victim of a spider bite. They
evidently like to hide in small dark places, like your shoes... And we
just thought mosquitoes, ticks and chiggers were all we had to worry
about in the summertime!
We're still waiting on our big move. We've been cleaning some of the
equipment that will be going so it will be nice and shiny for the new
building. You know how it is, some things are just impossible to clean
unless you unload them and move them totally out of place to get all
around them, and that's a big job!
This heat has some of our newly planted little trees around the new
building looking kind of sadly brown. I hope they can snap out of it
and green up again, when it cools off. I'd hate for us to lose any of
them before they even got started. They will make wonderful shade to
help combat the sweltering heat of our Oklahoma summers, and give us
beautiful foliage in the fall. That's one thing I really love about
our campus; we do have some very nice trees and landscaping plants in
place to add a touch of nature for us to enjoy.
Our menu for today includes:
Steak fingers
Crispitos
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Capri blend vegetables
Garden blend rice
Black eyed peas with snaps
Fried squash
Hot rolls
And for dessert, cool off with some luscious Cheesecake.
Keep cool,
Rhoda :-)
