[MainstreetManagers] Outgoing board members

I have pondered this for years and here are some of the reasons why I don't make a big deal when they go off the board:

  *   I honestly expect my board members to continue on their committee (and most do), which is where the real work gets done;
  *   Giving the big going away deal might make them feel as if they are being dismissed, or they have done enough ... and I still want to have them involved;
  *   We work hard for the dollars we have in our budget and we really weigh out the spending;
  *   I do send a hand written thank you card, which I am very sincere in what I say (not a cookie cutter card);
  * Giving them thank yous and shows of appreciation (not costly ones) throughout their tenure is more important than having a party when they leave.

Does anyone do anything special for outgoing board members?

Thanks,
