You raise a valid point.

I would think it would be as easy as him faxing you his contact information on letterhead.  The Dept of Ed should be supportive of this practice.

I'm curious if you ask for proof of identity when someone calls asking for info about a student stating they are from the Dept of Ed or do you just give them the info? We had such a call yesterday and asked for him to fax us something verifying he was from the Dept and he simply faxed us a copy of the Dear Colleague letter saying we have to give Dept of Ed information when they call.

My Assistant Director explained to him that we are aware of that policy but wanted documentation and proof that HE is really from the Dept of Ed.  He then offered to give her his team lead's phone number for verification.  We looked on the Dept of Ed's site and can't find him, so....

What would you do?
