[Oacrao-l] Couple of Questions

Kristie,

Kirsten Fullerton from our International Students and Scholars office and I have collaborated to address your questions:


1.     Our institutional FERPA policy includes the President and CEO of the Alumni Association and President and CEO of the Oklahoma State University Foundation and the staff they supervise in our definition of "school officials" who have a "legitimate educational interest" in students.  A small handful of their employees have been granted access to our basic student record information, which could include past students.

2.     OSU has just over 1500 F1 students on campus.  The Office of International Students & Scholars (ISS) on our campus has eight full-time employees for international student needs including our manager, a coordinator of immigration, two international student specialists, a coordinator of sponsored students, a coordinator of international undergraduate admission, a non-resident tax expert and an administrative assistant.  We also have some student workers and graduate assistants.  While our Graduate College does the processing of international graduate admission applicants, ISS took over the processing and evaluation of undergraduate applications in 2009. I have two unrelated questions that I need help on today from my OACRAO friends:


1.       Does your Foundation/Alumni/Advancement Office have access to past student transcripts?      Right now, we only allow them to see current students for scholarship purposes, but they want access to past students to look up degrees.   We let them come to the Registrar's Office to do this now, but they want access in their office.


2.       How many international (F-1) students do you have at your school?     Do you have a separate International Student Office or is it part of another office (Admissions /Registrars/etc.)?    How many staff members are officially responsible for international paperwork/programs on your campus (from I-20's and SEVIS maintenance to getting them settled on campus/airport pickups and cultural programs)?
