[Oacrao-l] FOIA request

Corey,

It all depends upon what you say you can/will do in your FERPA disclosures in your college catalog/class schedule. One thing I remember in my FERPA training from the Dept of Ed is that FERPA is considered “a standard of what you can/cannot do with confidential information, but the institution can choose to be more restrictive and protective of student’s confidential information”. The trainer also went on to add that it all depends upon what the institution has in its information release policies and procedures.

Subject: [Oacrao-l] FOIA request

Hello,

I received a request this morning (below) for our students’ directory information (did anyone else get this?). I have never received a request for this kind of information from someone who is not a military recruiter, so I was wondering if some of you could provide your school’s policy on this sort of request, or guidance about the Oklahoma freedom of information/public records guidelines, or just point me in the right direction for doing my own research?

I did find some information released by the OK attorney general: “Directory information’ may include a student’s name, address, telephone listing, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in school activities, dates of attendance, degrees received, and most recent previous educational institution attended.” Could I cite this description and provide only that information to this individual?

Thank you for any assistance,
