GENERAL SUMMARY:

The position provides leadership for pursuit of grants, and oversight of sponsored programs in alignment with the university's strategic and master plans.  The Director will utilize a strategic approach to position, research, pursue and support institutional efforts to secure external funding through grants, contracts, donor relations and others sources.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  *   Designs, leads and oversees the execution of an institution-wide public and private grants program in keeping with the needs, priorities, and competencies of the institution and its faculty and staff. Efforts range from finding grant sources and informing appropriate individuals; writing, assisting and overseeing the development and writing processes; and assisting with final grant production, presentation, and achievement.


  *   Researches and interprets funding opportunities and requests for proposals from government agencies and foundations to determine appropriateness for the institution, evaluates and makes recommendation on how best to respond.



  *   Continually reviews and updates information pertaining to changes made to federal regulations, specific agency requirements, and procedures for administration of funded awards.



  *   Provides oversight, and faculty and staff support in grant and sponsored program activities to include contract and subcontract preparation, negotiation, and recommendation for acceptance.



  *   Oversees and advises division chairs, faculty and staff to insure that grant funds are maximized, and funds are awarded and spent in accordance with the guidelines provided by the funding source. Ensures deliverables and reporting requirements are being met, and that files and records are properly kept and maintained.



  *   Work closely with the Fiscal Services and staff to provide financial oversight of funded projects, including setting up accounts and monitoring expenditures from grant budgets.



  *   Works with Project Directors to complete post-award activities including, but not limited to no cost extensions, budget revisions, contracts, contract modifications, and scope of work revisions.



  *   Collaborates and provides support for fund-raising projects associated with donor relations, capitol campaigns and other associated activities.



  *   Provides grant-writing training sessions and coordinates organizational meetings with faculty and staff to discuss guidelines, generate ideas, design projects, and assist in writing sections of the proposal. Edits and organizes grant proposals written by other staff and faculty.



  *   Establishes and maintains good working relationships with colleagues, staff, administrators, governmental agencies and other prospective funding sources. Collaborates and builds partnerships with public, private, and non-profit organizations. Represents the College in the most positive manner with all constituencies served.

Education and Experience:
Required:  Master degree in related field and minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience and success in grant writing, organizational leadership, and working in or with a university environment.


Skills and Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication skills, combined with a strong background in grant-writing, leadership, and execution of organizational initiatives. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, recommend and implement solutions in a timely fashion.  Strong organizational skills as well as a demonstrated ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment. Must be able to effectively lead and contribute in a dynamic, team environment, be service-oriented and exhibit a positive "can-do" attitude. Professional appearance and demeanor should be modeled at all times.  Willingness to continually self-initiate research and learning to remain current in expertise and knowledge.  Must be flexible, innovative and self-motivated.
